Mission The MAJCSC is a centre of excellence at the leading edge of military thinking and the DSRC, funded and managed by BAe Systems, reflects this, with a primary mission of satisfying the information needs of the staff and students of MAJCSC. BAe Systems scoped a project to create a DSRC without equal in the Gulf Region. TOP Scope The DSRC houses the combined collections of the former MAJCSC library and the titles donated to the college as part of the overall BAe Systems project management, which have considerable enhanced the original library since its formation 1995. The other major improvements have been in the area of IT. The DSRC now not only holds core books, but all work stations are linked using an Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure that empowers users to access defense related topics using CD ROMS, Intranet and a high speed Internet. The collection consists of: Books and monographs Current and back issues of journals titles Official documents and manuals Students research papers and archive items CD ROMs and Video tapes TOP DSRC Services Three members of staff including a qualified librarian A non-stop information service for customers Access to other libraries and information sources throughout the world, including on-line services DSRC staff on duty at the DSRC Support Desk to assist throughout College core hours (0715 - 1400 Sat to Wed) and during out of hours as required An "Alert" service to customers who wish to be kept informed of new materials on selected subjects A range of electronics services, including the Internet, the MAJCSC Intranet, and CD ROMs TOP DSRC Access Situated on the first floor above the main entrance and next to the Model Room (MR) The DSRC is open to accredited MAJCSC staff, students and authorized third parties Books available for loan may be borrowed via the DSRC staff between 0715 and 1400 Books may be returned via DSRC staff between 0715 and 1400 The DSRC IT services are available whenever the DSRC is open TOP Electronics The DSRC provides access to a range of high quality electronics resources via the DSRC Intranet. DSRC Intranet The intranet is the electronic catalogs, which provides the facility to search for and locate material from the DSRC collection, including books, pamphlets, student essays, journal article, videos and CD ROMs Internet (WWW) The high speed internet can be accessed from all PCs in the DSRC. It has been set-up to allow access to a wide range of web-based resources, including links to the better search engines and directories, a collection of quality websites on defense, international affairs and other relevant topics that the DSRC staff and customers have found useful. CD ROMs A collection of CD ROMs are available, mostly full text archives of magazines, newspapers and journals, bust also including encyclopedias, atlases, route finders and other key reference materials. These are not all networked so please contact DSRC staff to access them. TOP
